Kit Chan is a cultural practitioner, festival organiser, and social design educator based in Hong Kong. He is the co-founder of Islanders Ltd, an independent research lab and platform dedicated to place-based research, zine publishing, and island culture. Through Islanders, he publishes the Islanders Zine—a map-based zine series that documents Peng Chau from an urban research perspective.
Chan is also involved in developing community spaces for Peng Chau. He leads Peng Chau Cinema, a community micro-cinema project that revitalises the historical space through film, music, markets, and exhibitions, and is the co-founder of Nam Wan Bookshop, an independent bookshop and cultural space promoting independent publishing and slow reading culture on the island.
In parallel with his cultural organisation work, Chan is a part-time visiting lecturer in Social Design at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, where he mentors students to explore design as a socially engaged and community-driven practice.
His work explores the intersections of art, publishing, design, and community, with a strong focus on local narratives, island ecologies, and participatory culture.
Chan is a co-founder of the Inter-island Festival and organiser through Islanders Ltd and has been a key player across all three editions.
