Help us fund the 2026 Festival.

The 2026 Festival invites us to restore an archipelagic perspective to the islands of Peng Chau, Lantau, and Cheung Chau. What new futures emerge when we see the inter-island region not as the periphery, but as a connected, living whole? And how can we host a sustainable festival that refuses to be just another attraction, and instead becomes a way of staying with this archipelago—and with each other—with care, patience, and responsibility?

That's why we choose not to seek off-island big corporate sponsorship to bolster our finances. Instead, we’re turning directly to people who care about the outlying islands; are curious about slower, smaller public cultures; and believe that art can be embedded in everyday life.

We have secured baseline funding to support a minimum scale festival in 2026, with the help of Design Trust, Partnerships for Community Development, and the Hong Kong Arts Development Council. Your additional support in 2026 will help us make the Festival more sustainable by:

offering a liveable wage and fair working conditions for everyone involved;
expanding the scale of research and artistic projects that respond to island development and ecological change;
sustain long-term collaborations with island residents, local shops, and practitioners;
document our efforts for posterity and future research.

We will continue to choose slowness over spectacle, relationships over reach, and care over quick impact. Thank you for your support.

To those who supported us via indiegogo...

From February to April 2026, we held a crowdfunding campaign via indiegogo. During the campaign, many wonderful people pledged donations to the Festival. However, due to multiple unexpected changes on the site during campaign production, we are now unable to collect the pledges, nor obtain the pledged donor contact information for further coordination.

If you donated to this initial campaign: thank you for your support! We apologise for asking you to complete this extra step—a small headache that will ensure your money reaches the Festival team and the donor rewards reach you.

Like the very first tai lo yau ferry that plied the inter-island sea in the 1970s, you’re getting us started on our mission to connect the outlying islands. Donations to this tier are likely to help us cover small but important costs like transportation and supplies. For your support, you’ll get our eternal gratitude, expressed through a thank you shout-out on our website (see note 1).

Lv. 2 ｜Man Lai

The era of the tai lo yau ferry is coming to an end, and you’re taking us into the 1990s with style and class. Donations to this tier are likely to help support design and documentation initiatives for the festival, so that we can record the Festival for posterity and share our research and lessons-learned through print and web publications. For your support, you’ll get your choice of tote bag or t-shirt bearing the IIF logo. We’ll also give you a thank you shout-out on our website (see notes 1,2,3).

Lv. 3 ｜Ming River

For most of the islanders currently living along the inter-island ferry route, the Ming River is THE OG—thirty years plying the sea, day-in-and-day-out, getting the job done. Much like our Festival staff: We’re chugging along, getting the job done on minimal resources. Donations to this tier will likely help us continue paying our staff fairly and boost casual hires during the festival, so everything stays smooth sailing and on schedule. For your support, we’ll send you a Festival t-shirt AND tote bag. You’ll also get priority booking for Festival events and a thank you shout-out on our website (see notes 1,2,3,5).

Lv. 4 ｜Xin Chong

HK$1,500

We know, we know—many kaifong were devastated when the Ming River went out of commission and still bemoan the loss of outdoor seating. But here’s the thing: when the alternative was belching black smoke or nothing at all, the Xin Chong was the one keeping the show running. So that’s what donations to this tier are likely to do—keep the show going by increasing the number of small programmes and community engagement events. For your support, we’ll arrange an exclusive donor tour of one of the four inter-island ports. On top of that, you’ll get a festival t-shirt and tote bag, an illustrated map, and a shout out on our website and printed materials, where space permits. Plus—Priority+ Booking for up to 4 people per event, two weeks before the booking opens to the general public (see notes 1,2,3,5,6).

Lv. 5 ｜Xin Ming Zhu

Spacious, clean, organised, smooth—when people board this brand-spanking-new vessel, it’s easy to forget all the grumblings about indoor-only seating. That’s what donations to this tier are likely to do—help us sail on in peace, ensuring higher quality visitor experiences, more deeply researched feature projects, and happy, well-paid staff and collaborators. It may even help tide us over as we plan for future iterations of the festival. For your generous support, you’ll receive a special edition T-shirt decorated by an artist living in the inter-island region, as well as the festival tote bag, and illustrated map. During the Festival period, you’ll also receive priority booking and a ‘behind-the-scenes’ pass, which includes invites to the opening and closing parties for Festival staff and collaborators, as well as a private tour of one of the ports during the Festival period. And, of course, an expression of our gratitude by acknowledgement on our website and printed materials, where space permits (see notes 1,2,3,4,5,7).

NOTES: (1) What individual donations will be applied to are predictions only. While all funds will go to the planning and execution of the Inter-island Festival, there may be variations in application of funding to individual budget lines according to on-the-ground needs. All donors will receive a report on the usage of donations after two months after the close of the Festival, whichever is sooner. (2) All physical items, including map, tote bag, and t-shirts, will be shipped to donors after the fundraising period, on or before September 2026. (3) All t-shirts are screen-printed by hand. To reduce waste, t-shirts will be donated or recycled where possible. Colour is random. Donors can specify size during check-out. (4) The artist who decorates your t-shirt will be assigned at random. (5) Priority Booking includes event-booking access approximately 24 hrs before event booking opens to the public; ticket booking quota limits will be applied (max. two tickets per event per donor).
