Home's Shoreline

On the ferry into Peng Chau, the sight of the village houses lining Nam Wan is a comforting reminder that home is not far away. From the water, their patchwork of balconies and terraces are unintentionally woven into the fabric of Peng Chau’s coastline, a distinctive yet familiar feature shaped by the lives of people who live there.

Each balcony tells a small story about the household behind it. It might be a place to hang laundry, grow plants, store things, or sit and watch the world go by. Its designs may be colourful, intricate, quirky, or plain. But as one totality, these personal spaces create a shared landscape that belongs, somehow, to everyone.

This project lovingly documents in miniature the architecture, objects, and everyday lifestyles represented on the balconies of Nam Wan—inviting you to take a closer look at this community landscape while considering where private life ends and public space begins.
