Let’s Sing About Our Oysters

Did you know that oyster shells represent a cornerstone of Hong Kong’s industrial and natural history? Oysters cluster together to create reefs that support entire marine ecosystems. When harvested, they can be processed into industrial lime, used to help build homes and habitats for humans, too.
In this 90-minute workshop led by Japanese percussionist and Drum Jam founder, Kumi Masunaga, invites you to recreate this remarkable progress through the human voice.
Through playful vocal games, a brief introduction to Hong Kong’s oyster stories, and guided sound-layering, we will create an interlocking “human reef” where everyone's voice contributes to a spontaneous harmony without words.
