Lantau Cattle Walk

Would you be willing to spend half a day with us searching for a species that is disappearing on Lantau Island? Come meet the cattle communities that roam the Chi Ma Wan Peninsula!
Combining guided tour, performance, and the “Human Library” format, this walk gets up close and personal with Lantau’s once-prized, now-declining populations of brown cattle and water buffalo.
Upon arriving at Chi Ma Wan Pier, you’ll be greeted by your guide, Tintin (a little calf). This natural storyteller will give you an insider’s take on the daily lives, habits, and preferences of his fellow cattle. Walking among hillsides and streams, he’ll introduce favourite grazing spots and show off how buffalo once played a crucial role in local farming practices.
Along the journey, you’ll meet the uncle who once brought water buffalo to Pui O many years ago, and ‘Mother of Buffalo’ Jean Leung. The journey ends at an important ceremony for an old buffalo in the human world.
