From Sea to Wall

The amount of plastic in the ocean is beyond imagination. Plastic waste is relentlessly washed ashore, becoming, as climate policy researcher Ho Wai Fun (CCIL) puts it: ‘a fate that islanders are forced to accept’.

Facing this tremendous problem which no individual can fight alone, Peng Chau artist Ricky Yeung reaches out to his neighbours to take stock of the plastic plaguing the islands’ shores, together. Over several months, Yeung and his volunteers have collected a huge amount of plastic from across Peng Chau. With the help of the community, he will envelope the entire exhibition venue—walls, floor, and all—with the waste he’s collected. By bringing the underwater world of plastics on land, Ho and Yeung make the invisible, visible—so vibrant and all-encompassing that you cannot avert your gaze.
