Inter-island Sea: Seeing and Sketching

The Inter-islands Ferry is a crucial mode of transportation to get island residents to their destinations. But what if we treat the ferry not as a commuter vessel, but as an invitation for a sea-faring adventure? What if we try to record what we see from the ferry not with our phones but with our hands?
In this drawing workshop, participants ride the Inter-islands Ferry between Peng Chau, Mui Wo, Chi Ma Wan, Cheung Chau and back again, sketching the view from the ferry for the entire duration of the journey. Paying close attention to whatever lies outside the window, you’ll draw freely according to whichever details speak to you, or whatever feelings or impressions compel you to make a mark with your hand.
All your observations will be drawn on a long scroll of folded paper, resulting in a roving panorama at journey’s end. With your consent, your drawing will become part of a large collective drawing of the seascapes and landscapes connecting these four ports.
Drawing is a wonderful method with which to see and think about the world; this workshop is open to all people interested in ferry exploration and contributing to a collective depiction of the inter-island-scapes. No drawing experience is necessary.
The workshop will include warm-up exercises on the pier prior to boarding the first ferry and a short discussion time after the last leg of the trip.
