Unfinished Things

We often divide things into “finished” and “unfinished”. “Unfinished things” may refer to a flaw awaiting correction, or to a state that still holds the possibility of becoming something else.
When an object loses its function or is no longer fit for use, it is taken to a refuse station, eventually merging into an indistinguishable mass of waste.
On the island, however, objects leave our lives at a different pace. Discarded items found by the roadside, outdoor refuse stations, and second-hand stalls become temporary spaces between abandonment and reuse, where objects wait to be claimed again.
This project presents adapted “unfinished things”: worn, obsolete, or dysfunctional objects transformed through joining, reconfiguration, and reassembly. By offering these objects a temporary place to remain, the project reveals that disposal is not necessarily an instantaneous act. It invites viewers to reconsider: At what point does an object begin to become rubbish?
