Rediscover Cheung Chau

This project attempts to break the stereotypes of commercialized tourism in Cheung Chau by shifting focus toward overlooked micro-public spaces. Through preliminary field observations, we have captured 20 hidden everyday settings on the island, as postcards and illustrated orienteering map. This is not only a spatial documentation record, but also an island-exploration event inviting public participation during the Interisland Festival.
As we walk through the island, we also discovered patterns on street that are unique to Cheung Chau, alongside others that are similar to those found in other areas of Hong Kong. Together, they form everyone's impression of Cheung Chau.
The activities can be joined independently or explored together as a tour:
Orienteering Style: Participants can pick up the team's illustrated island-exploration map at To-day Bookstore, navigate through Cheung Chau at their own pace, and identify the 20 hidden everyday spots. Upon arriving at a location, participants can take a photo of the current environment, upload it to social media, and tag the team and the festival. Participants can collect the corresponding postcards as a souvenir of the experience after they return to To-day Bookstore by the end of their exploration.
Island-Exploration Tours: Participants can join an exploration event together with the team to rediscover selected settings along a designated route alongside team members, jointly uncovering the local life stories and interconnected everyday spaces. Upon completing the itinerary and returning to To-day Bookstore, participants can collect the corresponding postcards for free as a souvenir of their firsthand experience that day.
