My path to Peng Chau Cinema

Jiming Lu
My path to Peng Chau Cinema

Peng Chau Cinema has been there since 1978. Apart from the Cheung Chau cinema, it was the second cinema on an outlying island that was inaccessible by vehicles.
As an islander, I used to walk by there, thinking what it could have become if it was still in use nowadays. An architecture, an abandoned space, still full of old chairs and memories. Aside from occasional references to ‘meeting at the cinema’ during item exchanges, does it still have an impact on the lives of the island residents? We will find out the answer among these stories shared by old islanders.

Most of the island's stories are passed down by word of mouth, so I went through the streets and alleys to collect oral histories from the people of Peng Chau, in order to collage the time when the Peng Chau Theater was still in use.

A tour of the exhibition will happen on 2023.11.18 (Sat) at 16:00-16:30 and 16:30-17:00.
